Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 8, 2026
Overview
Permit Compass ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Project information (provided by you)
When you use the questionnaire, we collect project details including: property address, project type (ADU, remodel, etc.), scope of work, and other inputs you provide. This information is used solely to generate your permit roadmap and pre-fill application forms.
Email address (collected at checkout)
We collect your email address when you purchase a permit plan package. We use your email address to send your secure download link and, if you request it, to re-send that link. We do not use your email address for marketing without your explicit opt-in, and we do not sell your email address to third parties.
Payment information
Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, Inc. Permit Compass never sees, transmits, or stores your card number, CVV, or full payment details. We receive only a payment confirmation and a minimal metadata record (amount, currency, timestamp) from Stripe. Stripe's own Privacy Policy governs how they handle your payment data.
Usage and log data
Our servers may automatically log standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security, debugging, and aggregate analytics. It is not linked to personally identifiable information.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To generate your permit roadmap and pre-filled application forms.
- To deliver your secure download link by email via Resend (our transactional email provider).
- To re-send your download link when you request it.
- To process payments through Stripe and maintain purchase records for 12-month re-download access.
- To detect fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- To improve the accuracy and coverage of permit guidance.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
Stripe
Handles all payment processing. Stripe is PCI-DSS certified. Your card data goes directly from your browser to Stripe's servers — Permit Compass never receives it. See stripe.com/privacy.
Resend
Delivers transactional emails (your download access link). Resend receives your email address only for the purpose of sending that single email. We do not use Resend for marketing campaigns. See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Google Ads
We use the Google Ads conversion tracking tag to measure how visitors from our ad campaigns use the Service (for example, completing the questionnaire, starting checkout, or making a purchase). When you complete one of these actions, we may send your email address to Google in a hashed (irreversible) form to improve the accuracy of this measurement ("Enhanced Conversions"). See Google's Privacy Policy.
Meta (Facebook) Pixel
We use the Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram and to understand how visitors interact with the Service. See Meta's Privacy Policy.
Reddit Pixel
We use the Reddit Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Reddit and to understand how visitors interact with the Service. See Reddit's Privacy Policy.
4. Referrals to Third-Party Service Providers
Permit Compass may connect you with vetted third-party service providers if you explicitly request assistance (for example, a permit expediter, licensed contractor, or architect). This only happens when you actively click a "Get help" or similar button and confirm you want to be contacted — for example, by sending a pre-filled email that you review before sending.
When you request a referral, we share the following information with the specific service provider you requested:
- Your name and contact information (email address, phone number if provided)
- Your project's basic details (project type, property address, and estimated scope)
- The reason for the referral (e.g., permit expediter needed)
We do not share this information for any other purpose without your consent. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
You can decline to be referred at any time simply by not clicking the referral button. If you change your mind after making a request, contact support@permitcompass.com and we will retract the referral if possible.
Referral partners are independent businesses. Permit Compass does not control their services, pricing, or availability. Any agreement or work you enter into with a referral partner is between you and them; Permit Compass is not a party to that agreement.
5. Data Retention
Purchase records (email address, project type, property address) are retained for 12 months from the date of purchase to support re-download access. After that period, purchase records are deleted or anonymized. Questionnaire session data not linked to a purchase is not persisted beyond your browser session.
6. Cookies, Local Storage & Advertising Trackers
We use browser local storage to remember your recent permit analyses so you can return to them without re-entering your project details, and a first-party session cookie to keep track of your checkout session.
We also use third-party advertising trackers — the Google Ads tag, Meta (Facebook) Pixel, and Reddit Pixel — to measure the effectiveness of our ad campaigns and to report key actions (such as completing the questionnaire, starting checkout, or making a purchase) back to those platforms. These trackers may set their own cookies or use similar technologies in your browser. See Section 3 above for details on the data shared with each provider.
7. Your Rights
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we hold about you, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, or to request deletion of your purchase record, email us at support@permitcompass.com with your email address and purchase date. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date. Material changes affecting how we use your email address or personal data will be communicated by email where feasible.
